FIFTH ENTRY

by Susan Cowger 8 Comments

Do hard things. I went to Kenya recently. Was it hard?
Hmmmmm.

What is hard? I have imposed on you, gentle readers, the
notion that at the very least, I have become flabby, flaccid, can I say
spineless when it comes to stepping into adversity, stepping into the unknown,
even seeking to enjoy hard labor.
Kenya held all these things.
Before I get to that story, I must confess a certain pride
of having discovered the power of doing hard things. Sadly, as I look back over
the last posts I see one thing in all your eyes…

… me.
1 John 2:16
For
the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything
we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the
Father, but are from this world.
Mea
culpa. Please forgive.
The
pride of first sighting. Guilty. Still, I charge you with DO HARD THINGS.
I leave you to yourselves. Send me an update.
I
will give you an update on Kenya soon.

In every step, this is the first hard thing, the forgetting of self, the embracing of God.

I am here to tell you that blog commenting is one of the most powerful traffic generation methods around. I believe blog commenting has taken over what traditional article marketing used to be.

wow. i love your admonition, because
i tend to avoid hard things . . . surfaces,
    situations, people.

this will be taken to prayer.

The slaying of self = the ongoing sacrifice that brings us into closer communion with God. What a beautiful gift He has given you, to see through a perspective that is other than your "self's"; what wisdom to accept it and move forwardinto your heart beating more and more in exact rhythm with His heart, and how exciting and encouraging it is that you have said "yes" to engaging with HIM in His work in YOU!

    Oh, you are back!

Ah, pride. The bitter aftertaste. I long for the day when I do not strain against myself in all things, when I don't peek over my own shoulder in self pity or self worship. In every step, this is the first hard thing, the forgetting of self, the embracing of God.
