HAWK & SONGBIRD – poems
MESSY & HARD …
Life sucks. What happens when the path God gives us, the path we do not choose, doesn’t seem good or wise? For me it was CANCER.
What happens to faith when there is long suffering?
Loss has no presence. It reveals presence.
I call it a walkabout Cancer or other catastrophe—one must navigate the solitary goal to keep moving and survive. We look around for help. Coyote, hawk, songbirds, the cat hit by a car, the starry host watching from afar. These stayed when God was silent…
WHY WRITE IT?
I began as you might…Bewilderment. Abandonment, Fear, Sadness, Exhaustion. Doubt hammered me. I wrote these poems not to reiterate the horror of medical procedures but to tell you, to remind myself, how acutely I felt God’s silence and then how bit by bit in imperceptible degrees I understood something unfamiliar that I can only describe as Presence. Immense. Untouchable. Invisible. A Presence that would. Not. Leave. Nor let the world have me.
FOR WHOM?
You. Everyone’s faith is tested—you or dear ones going through or been through hard things. Have a listen, you who cannot find God in the chaos. Caregivers, you’re the unsung heroes, there are notes for you. For those who believe and for those who do not yet believe, you may see yourself in the questions. This book shows my path, a way to begin to understand, God’s unspeakable presence.
TAKEAWAY… To bring COURAGE.
Of course, I hope God will allow you to know him in hard things, even in his silence.
Nothing, no nothing, made me so glad to be alive.
